Anna Reading

slipping onto this rock

the organism

soft waxy skin and clammy coating of salt

enveloping sacks of vessels and nerves

merged and mutated

aligning itself with the taste of others

in fantasy it writhes

sucking up and spitting out

chewing up oranges, coal, basalt, licking limpets off the rock

draining the blue blood of crabs

faking the drained blue blood of crabs

eating the crabs instead

disgusted by the smell of its own making

twisiting in shit

its slimy skin washed every day

and tailored upright

needing more

something better

something’s missing

imagine it

make it up

the transformation!

but hang on to this rock

A Futuristic People will Unearth You

When your dried out encrusted ear

falls to the cracked earth, while fragments shatter

and the extent of your directed deafness becomes clear

I hope a gushing swell of silt-laden waters

Surging from a monsoon of language

Will submerge you and carry you

Deep into the inner void,

A cervical depth

Where one day

A futuristic people

With the same ears

And the same problems

Will unearth you

And lift you up in front of dignitaries

And lay you to rest, on your side

Next to a small girl

Who has none of the fineries you enjoyed,

But who does have an attuned ear

that looks exactly like yours.

TARDIGRADE TExT

An astrophysical calamity

Could boil the Earth's oceans

or evaporate the seas

But until the sun turns itself

inside out

you will survive

in a frozen lake

or next to radioactive chunk

or in a dusty crack of dried out sea bed

littered with salt encrusted ships hulls

Where fish became stones

And pebbles to skim

Into the dust, splashing up, like a wish of water

Without language

Or radio

You sit it out

And wait for a soft mossy morning
